Teaching

I am so lucky that I get to teach in the dynamic field of genetics and in an applied profession where the goal of learning is to improve health. There is no doubt I am a science nerd – Chromosomes are Cool!! Genetics is AMAZING!

I realize students learn best, remain interested and work collaboratively when provided with tasks that require active participation, critical assessment and match expectations of a health care environment… so I try to incorporate those aspects to the best of my ability.

In all of my classes, students are expected to participate as individuals invested in learning and as part of a team to solve a mystery. I want my students to be adding to and leading discussions – the class becomes so much more interesting when this happens.

Learning is forever, fun, and always best when accompanied with a little humor.

I have been fortunate to have 3 influential mentors in my career; my goal is to pay it forward and to share stories of the good, the bad and the ugly while instilling both confidence and knowledge.
